I don't know the exact details, but the main problem is that 8chan's software relies on the hard drive too much. The boards, threads, etc. are all static files generated, and written to disc, every time you post.
The problem is, hard drives are very slow. They are mechanical, so you have to wait until the disc actually rotates where you want to write the file, and in servers, they usually do extra work too, like duplicating everything so you can restore data if one of the drives die. But worst is, you have to wait until you have finished writing to a file if you want to write to it again, even if you would overwrite it, which can really slow down updating the front page, for example.
So they started to rewrite the software to dynamically generate the content every time you visit a page, instead of writing static files. This should be way faster, but since they had to rush it, there are still some serious performance issues that they've only noticed once they tried it on the actual 8chan data.
It's not the Jews Illuminati, just software engineering.

>>412Pci ramdisks? Those are like 10x or faster than ssd's and cost just as much. Though im no expert I remember the frontpage of 4chan and others showing active content size, theyre not over 120GB most of the time so a pci ramdisk while not a bad idea is plainly overkill for the job.
